GREEN GOLD ISLANDS, TERRITORI A SETACCIO. SANT’ERASMO E MAZZORBO

On the 13th and 14th of September 2014, Weekend Special Monditalia, with “Green Gold Islands”, will leave from the exhibition space at the Corderie to go and visit the islands of Sant’Erasmo and Mazzorbo. These two islands of the Venice Lagoon are the paradigms of a new relation between peri-urban agriculture and cities – by contrast, they both make the lacks and needs of the contemporary city strikingly evident.

During the weekend, “Green Gold Islands” will look at rural areas as resources and concrete possibilities for the development of new economic models and lifestyles, linked to the rediscovery of agriculture as an agent of territorial development.

The explorative walk into the islands becomes an opportunity to meet and exchange knowledge and experiences in the field, a stimulus for reflection. The rural land is at the centre of the discussion: not a residual theme anymore, it is understood as a commons, and a resource of global interest. On September, 13th, the registered participants will meet in the “accumulator” at Corderie, only to board on a ferry to reach the island of Sant’ Erasmo. There, we will first visit the winery “L’Orto di Venezia” and then a farmhouse with an innovative management; a third reflection will be staged at Torre Massimiliana. Afterwords, we will board again and sail towards Mazzorbo, where we will visit “Venissa”, the epicenter of the current transformations in the Mazzorbo / Burano system, and discuss on-going projects. “Venissa” is also the place for a concluding discussion, where the experiences are wrapped up, and finally lead to an artifact that will be placed at Corderie.
